Learn about Norwegian cider traditions in a family-run organic orchard. The Cider House in Balestrand offers 45-minute summertime cider tastings which includes a flight of five ciders and a short educational program with one of the family members. You learn about fruit growing, cider production, and taste different styles of cider: traditional Norwegian acidic ciders, West-Country style tannic ciders, pear cider, flavored cider, and fruit wines. You get an introduction sparkling cider production, made with the same traditional method as Champagne and other sparkling wines.
The cider tradition in Sogn is freewheeling and unrestrained, resulting in many unique and innovative drinks. This was the first place where bitter cider apples were grown, and among the ciders that Balholm produces are a hopped cider, cider with malt, and Viking Cider, a replica of an ancient fermented fruit drink.
There is also a non-alcoholic flight of five juices.
The drinking age in Norway is 18.
